So Un-Sex and the City

October 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In Sex and the City, the girls barely fight so what I’m about to say to so un-Sex and the City that is scares me. I am in a herted arguement, alright a fight, with “Samantha.” It started because of her man because as we all know , men start all fights. But as we also know, men should neevr come bewteen a friendship, and it didn’t. What came between Samantha and my relationship is her, in my opinion of course. So let me start from the beginning to help explain our situation better. We (meaning “Miranda”, “Charlotte”, and I) had all planned a big party for “Samantha” and we invited over a hundred people over to “Miranda”’s hosue, since her’s is the biggest. We had put a lot of money and effort into this and then “Samantha” told us that she couldn’t come to her party anymore because her boyfriend, whose an executive for the Super Bowl advertisment and such. I mean she totally blew off this huge party for him. At that point, I admit I was pissed but it didn’t seem like anyone else was since they were so happy she had finally settled down with someone even though he is twenty years older than her. When she got back she was a different person to me. She was trying so hard to fit this mold that she thought was how a girl in love should act but it was no longer her. So when I approched her to tell her this, she freaked.

She’s become a different person to me and “Charlotte” and “Miranda” would agree. Another reason our relationship is being stressed is that I’m becoming closer to my friend that I met through acting and she knows “Samantha” from when she was doing advertising as well as commericals. My friend is the type that is only can really be described as she is really sweet, outgoing and hilarious, but if she doesn’t like you, you live in hell. She’s like Regina George from Mean Girls or the Molly Ringwald character, from The Breakfast Club or Cher in Clueless. A total bitch when she wants to be. And because “Samantha” was acting like a nuisance that day and a poser, she was a bitch to “Samantha”, of course only after “Samantha” had paid her for the commerical. So, “Samantha” has become ever intimidated by my friend and my friend has, in turn, disliked “Samantha”.

So does this mean that our group of friends is no longer the Fab Four and might become the Terrefic Three? This makes me wonder: why would a friendships end because of one bad time when there were so many bad times?

ps. Please comment with names we can call my new friend. She’s really hyper and loads of fun. Any Sex and the City reference is great but also another nickname would be great!

A witch or a sexy kitten…

October 19, 2008 · 4 Comments

Here are some great ideas for Halloween costumes of celebrities over the years. I suggest if your a guy – have fun and do something silly like Kyle MacLachan did a few years back and if your a girl – also have fun but take this as a chance to impress. There are lots more then just a witch or a sexy cat. Be creative!

Covergirl

October 18, 2008 · 2 Comments

These following women aren’t just women but they are all ladies, as cheesy as that sounds. The way they act and dress is inspirational for all women who want to become true ladies. To be a lady I think one needs to be polite and gracious and lovely but above all strong-willed.

Firstly, Miss Keiar Knightley. She is so old-fashioned and so fashionable.

Another ‘covergirl’ is Natalie Portman. I love her style and her girly-ness. It is so young and fresh and she is totally a fashion inspiration to us, twenty-somethings.

Natalie’s co-star in The Other Boleyn Girl, Scarlett Johansson also has a ladylike style.

Last but not least, Leighton Meester also exudes ladylike fashion and totally inspires me with her ‘Blair’ look and her ‘Leighton’ look. Leighton Meester is not like most actresses that go to the Oscar’s and Emmy’s, she also goes to the Fashion galas too and looking like herself not like some character someone wrote for her or some fashion diva someone styled her to be.

This look isn’t only for the award shows and galas. It can also be translated to everyday look whiether it is a flirty day dress or a girly work outfit like Diane Von Furstenburg outfit here:

With these inspirational young ladies and their inspirational outfits, now you can also be a !

A Word From “Charlotte”

October 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Heyy Vogue Idea readers! I’m Zoe also know as “newyorkecherie”. As you probably know from reading my friend Meg’s blog, we have a tight group of friends. We call ourselves “Carrie”, “Miranda”, “Samantha”, and me, “Charlotte Yorke”. Our friend, “Miranda” wrote a guest blog on Meg’s site as well, so I decided I’d reply yes to the invitation Meg gave me.

NAME: Zoe
JOB: On Staff at a magazine
FAVORITE…
MAGAZINE: Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Lucky, Domino, etc.
COLOR: Red… I’m a romantic.
DESSERT: I absolutely love chocolate, so truffles… but I also love a really good tiramisu.
ALCOHOLIC DRINK: Cosmos and Strawberry Daiquiris

I did that quick questionnaire so you would see a few facts about me. So yea, I just wanted to take this opportunity to kind of fill you in on my life and things like that. I’m dating the love of my life, “Trey”. Hopefully, he and I will last longer than Charlotte and Trey did on Sex and the City. I would have given him the nickname, “Harry”, but his personality is more like Trey’s. He comes from a great family and is a business man. We live together on the Upper East Side of New York City. But enough about that, I was hoping to share more of my interests.

I work at a magazine here in New York. I’m not going to give away too much information, but I basically get to do a little bit of everything. I had my shot at writing, and recently got promoted after only a few months. I work with everything from fashion, beauty, and designers, to food, entertainment, and the city. Here is my normal day:

8:15-      Wake up and go to the gym (conveniently in my building)
9:45-      Get ready for my day. Go to Starbucks for my Grande Non-Fat Latte (iced in the summer/ spring), without which I would not be able to function.
10:30-      Arrive to my office after walking to work (Being Green). Check my e-mail, check my blog, walk around and see if anyone needs me. I return messages to people who called while I was out.
Throughout my day, I edit some articles, check out new stores and boutiques, run errands at various stores or designers, and pull things for shoots. It sounds like pretty easy work, but trust me, it can get to you. If the shoes that an intern or assistant went all the way downtown to get don’t match the last-minute changed dress, we have chaos on our hands. But basically, it is my job to make sure things run smoothly. It means always thinking ahead, demanding things from the interns, and things like that. I have a meeting once a month after the issue comes out to discuss the next issue. But basically, I don’t have many meetings to go to since I’m not on the corporate side.
Later that night, I either go out with the girls, or I go out with Trey.

So I don’t ramble on too much more, I’m going to end my guest blog entry here. If you like what I’ve said here, check out my blog http://newyorkecherie.wordpress.com/. I update as much as I can, so be sure to come on over!
Infinite x’s and o’s
Zo
P.S. I’m starting an advice column on my blog so if you need help with anything, whether it’s guy advice, shopping advice, or design advice (although Miranda may be your best bet on that one), just comment on my blog or send me a message in the “About Moi” section of my blog. I’m here to listen and I have been through many situations that I’m sure could help you!

A Word From “Miranda”

October 12, 2008 · 2 Comments

Thanks for asking me to do a post. I’m very hapy to do one for you and to explain my work. I’ve never really understood this whole blog thing but maybe if people like my blog I’ll come around to making my one although, God knows, I have no time.

So let me explain what I do. I am an interior design. In the past I have also exterior designed, although my strong suite is definitely interior. When interior designing, I usually work with my customer to find out their price range, when they want to move into their new house or their renovated house. Most of the time I am hired when someone wants to completely re-do their hosue and then, I have to work with the architects too, in order to get a full idea on what the space I am dealing with looks like. It is a very stressful job because I have to do everything and anything to please the client. I have always loved design and before I had figured out my career path, I had wanted to become a fashion designer.

Once assigned a new project, I go to the person’s house and see what I am dealing with: the price range and the space range. Then I get a sense of what their personal style is and then we go shopping. I do most of the shopping without the client but this first shopping trip is meant for me to get a bigger idea of their style. Now, sometimes the client is too busy to do this with me and then in that case I find things I like and email them a few of them and see their response. I have worked on mansions in the Hamptons and also townhouses in the city. I have worked with actors and also bankers worth billions.

Some of my favorite furniture stores are Ethan Allen, Pottery Barn, and ABC Carpet and Home. ABC is located in New York and has the most amazing chandeliers, rugs, and furniture.

If anyone has any questions for me like what carpenting would look good with your walls or wheither you should go with a modren or antique chair just email Vogue Idea (contact.vogueidea@gmail.com) and she’ll forward it to me. Thanks!

xoxo – “Miranda”

Escape from New York

October 12, 2008 · 4 Comments

Times like these I remember why I wanted to move out of the city last winter and the winter before that and the winter before that and the winter before that…

Although the last few days have resembled fall, a week before and many, many weeks to come are dreadful. This winter is supposed to be one of the coldest winters in New York. If you have to bundle up might as well look cute. I think you should invest in a cute coat because you are going to wear it o often you might as well absoluetly love it. Here are some of my favorite coats for this winter.

Forever 21 Coat

This one from Forver21 is only 35 dollars and it is super cute.

Here is a few from Delia*s that are also really inexpensive but still adorable.

These two are on the expensive side, from Intermix, but are totally worth the money, in my opinion.

That Nook

October 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I have found my own “Mr. Big” and of course I am talking about Mr. Right then Mr. Wrong and then Mr. I-have-no-idea. But he is now I know he is my Mr. Positively, Absloutely, Most definitely Right. At least right now. But I still love being a single gal and being able to go out with my friends without thinking ‘Oh wait! Mr. Right might be interested in going to that new exbihit or new restaurant that’s opening instead…’ I also love being able to think for myself. Of course, I also love having a man. I think my favorite thing about being in a relationship, except for the guy obviously, is just lying next to that person right before I go to bed. It’s not like anything else when you slip in that nook under his arm and lie there while he reads the Times.

My Mr. Big is positively the most romantic man ever. He is definitely the most polite man I’ve ever dated. I love being with him so much that I want to be with him all the time. I think although we have been dating for two months about that it is time to start making room for a drawer at his place. You know, a place to put some clothes in case I sleepover spontaneously or something. As of now, the clothes on my back are the only clothes I go home in. Well, of course the pair of jeans I stole from him is an exception, might I add that these jeans are so cute cuffed with ankle boots! I go home early every morning looking like a high-priced hooker and of course, this needs to stop. So, my question to you is this: When should my little nook in his arm become a little nook in his closet?
